Cannabis has been used extensively throughout Asia, especially in China, where the plant originated. Whether in the form of oil, powder, infusion, paste, or whole, it was a vital ingredient in many formulas.

Before the use of cannabis and marijuana was made illegal it was used widely for medical purposes to combat diseases and disabilities and it did not appear to manifest many of the harmful side effects associated with some modern medicines.

Cannabis and cannabis based drugs appear to be helpful for a range of illnesses including:

  1. Aids, HIV
  2. Relief during chemotherapy treatment
  3. Relief of chronic pain
  4. Asthma
  5. Epilepsy
  6. Glaucoma
  7. Menstrual cramps and labour pain
  8. Migraine and severe headache
  9. Multiple sclerosis
  10. Nausea and vomiting
  11. Anorexia
  12. Inflammation

Cannabis products might not only act as an analgesic but also an anti inflammatory agent. Ironically, they are also believed to be a good remedy for drug dependency when used to combat symptoms of withdrawal from opiates and alcohol.

With a long tradition of success and fewer side effects cannabis based products surely have a place in medicine.
